The journey to this part of Efate is breathtaking. We’ll stop for photo opportunities to capture the vista from the high elevation looking down on Port Vila Harbour, Mele Bay, Hideaway Island. Our destination is a beach with pristine clear waters, bordering a turtle sanctuary, brimming with tropical fish and coral underwater gardens. After a paddle, go for a snorkel and see what beauty lies under the water. We recommend wearing reef shoes to prevent coral cuts. Tour includes a sample of local food, bottle of water and entrance fee into the Ni-Van owned site. Duration: 4 hours

We are locals who want to provide you with a wonderful, honest, cultural tourism experience that will stay with you long after you have returned home. It will be our pleasure to share our part of the world with you whilst giving you a personal insight into the Vanuatu way of life.

We can provide private or group lessons instructing on the correct technique to ensure you have the most fun on the board, limiting fatigue and gaining great core-strength exercise. No experience is necessary, we specialise in beginners. Once you have the necessary tuition we can offer SUP board hire, so you can explore your own waterways safely.

Depending on the weather conditions and your preferences, we can always suggest the perfect location to ensure you have the best experience. Our air-conditioned luxury vehicle can comfortably accommodate groups of up to 8 people, but if your group is larger than this, we’ll simply arrange another vehicle! We are happy to collect you from your Port Vila accommodation.

You can rest assured that your qualified ASI accredited SUP Instructor from Australia, assisted by local Ni-Van staff, will take excellent care of you, in and out of the water. Booking with our Ni-Van owned business directly supports our village and the village owned sites we visit. We are very proud to promote that our goal is to return any profits generated from Stand Up Paddle South Pacific, back to the village to fund much needed projects that will benefit all members of our community.

SUP Rental Policy

Stand Up Paddle South Pacific ASI SUP School is a premiere provider of SUP lessons and SUP board rentals. While we strive to make paddling accessible to all, we must enforce a policy whereby only experienced paddlers can rent SUP boards from us at locations that are suitable for SUP. We can offer SUP lessons prior to the rental of your board or by pre-arrangement. We are authorised to offer SUP rentals in enclosed flat locations and flat water ocean location. We do not provide rentals in surf locations (locations that have breaking waves).

We define experienced paddlers as such:

  • Hold a paddle properly on board
  • Can handle board properly on land and on the water
  • Understands how to paddle forward 10 strokes, turn and return to the same spot
  • Can paddle efficiently into the wind (if there is wind)
  • Knows the marine boating rules

Stand up Paddle Surfing: You must be a proficient paddler at flat water and an experienced SUP Surfer or have a SUP surfing lesson. SUP Surfing can be dangerous for people with no previous surfing experience.

We require the following items be worn / carry while paddling with absolutely no exceptions:

  • Leash / leg rope
  • Emergency response procedure, phone numbers & safe paddling location area maps provided by
    your ASI SUP school instructor.
  • A watch so you can watch your time. Should you stay out beyond one hour, you will be charged
    for additional time.

It is recommended you carry a mobile phone in a wet bag – in case of an emergency.

Suitable SUP Paddling Location

We currently provide supervised SUP rentals at:

  • Mele Bay
  • Malapoa
  • Havannah Bay

There are many locations not suitable for paddling and can have hidden dangers. Weather conditions can also be unpredictable in some locations. We will provide you information and maps on the best and safest locations for paddling. For your safety, you must only paddle at the designated locations.


Damage: Please inspect your board prior to taking it out. We check it upon return and will charge for any dings or damage.
